The National Government is building a house for the General Service Unit (GSU) officer who was killed during the 14 Riverside Driver terror attack in Nairobi last week.

Japhet Nduguja, 25, who hails from the county, is the only police officer felled by terrorists during the security operation at dusitD2 Hotel.

The GSU officer was among security personnel deployed to evacuate civilians and neutralise the terrorists.

On Tuesday, the government deployed hundreds of inmates to construct the house at his Kimala –Ndiweni village on the outskirts of Taveta town.

A Government source said the house is being built in his honour for the distinguished services he rendered to the country.

The workforce is drawn from Manyani Maximum Security, Wundanyi GK, Voi and Taveta Remand Prisons under the command of Assistant Commissioner of Prisons Khamisi Bakari. Mr Bakari is in-charge of Wundanyi GK Prisons.

“The house must be completed before his burial, possibly this Saturday,” said the source.

Before the tragedy, Nduguja had already bought building materials and was planning to take his annual leave this year to start construction of his house.

Today, Taveta Deputy County Commissioner Charles Kamande said the Government was only providing labour.
