Power supply to Maragua police station interrupted

A police station in Maragua, Murang’a County has been in the dark for close to a week and no one knows why.

The Standard learnt that the facility was plunged in darkness, with security officers manning the office using a lamp and torches to light up their work place.

Relatives with suspects in police custody complained of the pathetic situation seeking for intervention saying the security officers were also suffering.

A relative who declined to be named disclosed that in the past one week, the facility has been plunged in darkness, a challenge that also affected policemen living with their families.

“Kenya Power should move in a speed and investigation cause of the problem to restore connectivity to the crucial facility serving a wider area in Maragua division,” said the woman who declined to be named.

A neighbour to the station revealed the officers have bought rechargeable torches and lamps for use in the homes.

“The security officers are our brothers and sisters and as neighbours, we have been assisted, awaiting restoration of supply in their place,” said one of the neighbour.

Murang’a South OCPD Mr John Onditi said they have alerted Kenya Power over their challenge as technicians have delayed to rectify the situation.

“The lights in the compound went off on Tuesday last week, and Maragua Police station does not have any pending bill with service provider,” said Onditi.

Efforts to get comments from Murang’a Kenya Power office failed.
