“My deep and sincere condolences to the family of Dr Odhiambo's body guard Mr Owich who, unfortunately, lost his life in the accident,” Raila posted on Twitter.

The former Prime Minister also joined Kenyans to wish Dr Odhiambo a quick recovery.

“We have received disturbing news about Migori Women Representative Hon Dr Pamela Odhiambo being involved in a grisly road accident this morning. I wish the MP quick recovery,” stated Raila.

The Migori Woman Rep and two other occupants who were in the vehicle sustained injuries.

They sustained chest injuries and were taken to a Kisumu hospital.

The driver was trying to avoid hitting a boda-boda rider before losing control of the vehicle.

Pamela Odhiambo’s aide Fred Owich died on the spot.

Rongo OCPD Peter Kirui said the double cabin vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road at around 8am and rolled several times.

They were travelling to Homa Bay to join Baringo Senator Gideon Moi at a fundraiser for women traders.

The accident comes a day after five people died in a road crash involving two lorries and matatu at Duka Moja trading centre on the Narok-Maai Mahiu highway.

Police said the driver of the lorry lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the rear of a shuttle belonging to Transline Classic Ltd on Friday.

The matatu in turn collided with a lorry loaded with fish.

Six passengers were taken to Narok County Referral Hospital with serious injuries.

According to Narok police boss Joseph Kisompe four people, including a school girl, died on the spot while the driver of the matatu died on arrival at the hospital.

Road accidents in Kenya are a source of concern both locally and worldwide.

The establishment of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) was motivated partly by the need to curb the high number of deaths on Kenyan Roads.

In addition to the personal costs that each person pays whenever an accident occurs, which sometime include loss of life, there is a high economic cost associated with road accidents.

The insurance sector bears the brunt of these losses since its goal is to provide insurance coverage for vehicles.
