Outrage as Kilifi teacher defiles, impregnates schoolgirl

A man is demanding justice for his 17-year-old niece he claims was defiled and made pregnant by a teacher in Kauma sub-county.

The girl, who is three months pregnant and is still in school, has alleged that she is under pressure not to pursue the case.

The girl's uncle accused the Marere Primary School administration on Wednesday of trying to sabotage the case by threatening him and trying to protect the teacher when he decided to follow up the matter.

The school's head, Moses Kiringi, declined to discuss the matter when The Standard sought his views on the report as Ganze OCPD Patrick Ngeiywa said the matter was under investigation.

“The matter is with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Why are you asking me?" Mr Kiringi said and disconnected the call when we spoke to him yesterday.

The girl's uncle said he noticed changes in the girl’s behaviour during the August holidays and that she had attempted to get an abortion.

“We discovered she had boiled tea and neem leaves and other herbs. I cautioned her that she might die if she tried to abort the foetus and assured her I'd follow up the matter. I told the head teacher and he asked me to take the girl for a medical test. I did and submitted the results to him. Time passed without any communication and I decided to go and get the documents back,” he said.

The uncle said some teachers had asked him why he wanted to punish the teacher because he was going to lose his job.

He said they requested him to have the matter solved out of court. The Kilifi County TSC director, Aden Robley, said his office had received the complaint and a team had been dispatched at the school to conduct investigations.
