Shock as class 8 boy kills 18-year-old over a phone

Police in Kericho have arrested a boy in connection with the death of another teenager.

Police Commander James Mugera said on Wednesday the boy was suspected to have stabbed Victor Kemboi, 18, in a dispute over a phone.

“The two young men had a quarrel over the ownership of a mobile phone, leading the suspect to take out a knife and stab the other young man on the left side of the chest,” Mr Mugera said.

The suspect is a Class Eight pupil at a primary school in Ainamoi constituency.

Kemboi died at Siloam Hospital.

Assistant chief William Maritim said the two quarrelled at Tendwet trading centre.

“After the suspect was overpowered, he dashed into one of the shops at the trading centre, grabbed a kitchen knife and went looking for his nemesis,” Mr Maritim said.

Mugera said the suspect would be arraigned once investigations were completed.

Elsewhere, police have been asked to speed up the investigation of the murder of a Kinangop trader.

Nyandarua leaders urged the police to hasten their probe and arrest the killers of 32-year-old John Mwaura, who was attacked two weeks ago.

He had left home to deliver milk to Utawala estate in Nairobi.

No arrests have been made and police have yet to recover his missing truck.

Addressing mourners during Mr Mwaura's burial in Magumu, Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau said it was worrying that innocent Kenyans were being killed and nobody was being held to account for the deaths.

Ms Gitau said Mwaura’s body was found at City Mortuary after a 10-day search by his friends and relatives.

“He has been in the milk business for some time now, delivering the commodity to various estates in Nairobi. We were alarmed when he did not come back as usual and after looking for him, we found his body at the mortuary,” she said.

Gitau termed the incident shocking, saying many more businessmen from the area had been carjacked and their cargo stolen.
