Jeff Koinange in trouble for asking about Atwoli’s bedroom prowess

Popular Citizen TV news anchor Jeff Koinange is in trouble with the Media Council of Kenya over an interview he had with COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli.

During the interview that aired on August 15, 2018, at 9.49 pm, Jeff started by asking Atwoli about his highly talked about marriage to a TV anchor.

He then went further to interrogate Atwoli’s private life using terms such as ‘lakini kazi bado unafanya’, ‘katiba bado unasoma’ and ‘kazi bado unaweza’ – referring to the COTU boss’ performance in bed.

Media Council CEO David Omwoyo was totally unimpressed by Koinange’s remarks that he asked Royal Media Services to immediately furnish the council with steps taken to avoid such occurrences in future.

“The host was persistent in discussing explicit adult-related content outside the watershed hours,” said Omwoyo.

“At some point, Mr. Atwoli dismisses Mr. Koinange reminding him that it’s important to be cautious about disclosing his private issues for the sake of his children who are watching,” added Omwoyo.

He accused Koinange of breaching clause 13 of the code of conduct that touches on privacy.

“The article states that inquiries into an individual’s private life are not acceptable and things concerning a person’s home, family, religion, sexuality, personal life and individuals private affairs shall not be allowed,” maintained the media council CEO.
