Waititu responds after going viral over ‘moving rivers’ remarks on demolition

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has asked Kenyans to dismiss media reports and get the full context of what he said about the demolitions of buildings in Nairobi..

The Governor went viral on social media after a short video of him saying rivers should be moved instead of demolishing buildings on riparian land surfaced the internet.

Mr. Waititu attributed the negative responses to the fact that he does not support the demolitions and was suggesting a different solution.

“Mambo ingine mimi naona pale, kama iyo watu wanasupport ubomoaji, mimi hapana support. Mambo iangaliwe, kama nyumba yako imekaribiana na mto, wewe uambiwe ni garama yako kuhakikisha hiyo mto imesonga kidogo,”said Waititu.

Speaking during an interview on Milele FM on Tuesday, August 14, Waititu said walls can be built to redirect the river flows.

“Tunaweza Jenga walls kupea mto mkondo mpya, haina shida inawezekana kusongeza mto,”said Waititu as quoted by Milele FM.

On his social media pages, the Governor posted the full video of about two minutes, asking Kenyans to get the full context of his statement.
