Alfred Mutua’s message after rumour of his arrest

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Thursday posted photos of himself with other leaders an hour after word went round that he had been arrested.

Mutua seemed to dispel the rumours as fake news, assuring his followers that he was going about his business as usual.

“At St. Austin’s Catholic church for the memorial service of my advisor the Late Mzee Samuel Mbova.

“Linked up with Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo and Kibwezi West MP Patrick Musimba. Service about to begin,” he posted.

Prior to this, several blogs had begun peddling rumours that the governor had been arrested by officials from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) after a radio interview.

This comes just a day after former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero and six former county officials who served during his tenure were arrested by anti-corruption detectives.

Dr Kidero was picked up from Muthaiga Golf Club by EACC officers and taken to their headquarters at Integrity Centre.

The former Nairobi boss, who was taken by detectives to Integrity Centre at around 5 pm (Wednesday), told journalists he did not know why he had been arrested.

“I don’t know why I am here. They told me to come,” he told reporters as officers pushed him through the office's doors.

According to DPP Noordin Haji, the EACC had been investigating complaints involving Nairobi City County Government officials and their handling of public funds.
