Ex-Cabinet minister dies at his home

Former Cabinet minister and West Mugirango MP Henry Obwocha is dead.

The former lawmaker died after collapsing at his home in Nairobi on Friday night.


President Uhuru Kenyatta mourned the loss of the former minister, describing him as a distinguished long-serving public servant.

"It is with deep sadness that I learn of the untimely death of Hon. Henry Obwocha this morning. The late was a distinguished long-serving public servant, lawmaker and accountant whose service to the nation will be greatly missed.

"May God the Almighty grant his family, friends and indeed all Kenyans the grace to bear the loss of our beloved brother," stated the President.

Obwocha, who previously served as the Minister of Planning and National Government, had been the Chairman of the Privatisation Commission since April 2015.

The deceased also served as the West Mugirango MP between 1992 and 2007 and had short stints as Minister for Energy and Assistant Minister for Finance.

He was a founder member of KCA University and was also part of the National Economic and Social Council which drafted Kenya’s Vision 2030.
