You’re a weak leader- Atwoli tells Uhuru over cabinet naming

Speaking at a funeral in Kakamega on Saturday, Central Organisations of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta is a weak leader over the delayed naming of the cabinet.

According to Atwoli, the President is causing anxiety amongst Kenyans as many are left second guessing who or who will not be in the new cabinet. He claimed that the delay has been caused by brokers who are selling top state jobs to politicians who lost in last year's General Election.

“Uhuru should not exhibit his weakness. How can it take the President more than three to four weeks to come up with a Cabinet? It is a worrying state of affairs for a man who says he was overwhelmingly voted into office,” he said.

Atwoli further urged President Uhuru to quickly set up his full cabinet, saying the delay to name the whole team has caused panic within his current cabinet and consequently affected their delivery to the Kenyan people.

“If the cabinet takes him three weeks to set up, Uhuru is a weak leader. He should not exhibit his weakness by delaying to name the cabinet,” he concluded.

The President on Friday, January 5 fired named only six CSs he intends to retain as he announced part of his new cabinet. He retained Fred Matiang'i (Interior) Henry Rotich (Treasury), Charles Keter (Energy), Joe Mucheru (ICT) and James Macharia, Transport.

He also promoted and rewarded Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko, former Marsabit Governor Ukur Yatani and former Turkana senator John Munyes.

The fate of the remaining fourteen is yet to be determined.
