Mudavadi has failed as a Luhya and a national leader, Wamalwa says after he was attacked by rowdy youths

Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa is pointing fingers at Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi after he was pelted with stones during the Maragoli Cultural Festival at Mbale grounds in Vihiga County.

Mr. Wamalwa's motorcade came under attack when he arrived at the event at around 3 pm as Musalia Mudavadi was addressing the crowd. Angry youths ordered that the CS leave even as Mr. Mudavadi tried to calm them down.

The youths said that the event would not go on until ‘Jubilee’ left.

The CS was led away from the dais by Central Organisation for Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli, Mudavadi, and several other leaders. Angry youths threw stones at his motorcade even as he left the vent, chanting that he had to leave.

According to Mudavadi, Eugene had come uninvited to the event. He said the latter should have consulted other Jubilee leaders from the region, who conspicuously skipped the event.

Leaders from the area condemned the act by Wamalwa’s security detail who shot in the air in attempts to disperse the mob.

Wamalwa on his part stated that he experienced hostility and tension in the event and also noticed most of the non-NASA leaders were away.

“When I asked my brother Musalia if it was all Luhya or purely a Maragoli event, he gave me the impression that we were unwelcome because of the political situation,” lamented Wamalwa.

The Water CS then went ahead to express his disappointment in Mudavadi, saying the latter did not have the skills to lead.

“To me it is regrettable and it also demonstrates regrettably a total and disastrous failure in leadership on the part of Mudavadi who has demonstrated that he has failed even to rise to the occasion of being a Luhya leader. He has failed to show leadership credentials of being a national leader if he could fail to contain his people,” he said.
