Why Gideon Moi is Rift Valley's sure bet for 2022

"And they shall drive you from men and your dwelling shall be with the beast of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the most High rule in the Kingdoms of men and gives it to whomever he chooses." - Daniel 4:32.

This was when King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon spoke pompously and haughtily that he had built his kingdom through his mighty power and for his own glory. This is the folly that could befall Deputy President William Ruto between now and 2022.

The exaggerated belief that he has risen to the second highest office in the land by sheer personal effort is not only misleading but amounts to self-aggrandisement.

How quickly he forgot the person who put him on that path! And how quickly his two lieutenants, Senator Murkomen and MP Aden Duale, have forgotten that retired Present Moi held the hand of their man and handed him over to accompany President Kenyatta, who was then on a mission to capture the presidency in 2002.

That mission is now accomplished, with President Uhuru Kenyatta in his second and final term. Mr William Ruto's work is over. Finished. Leadership is a measure of vision, positive passion, discipline, and conscience on the part of those who lead. Ruto is lacking in these vital attributes of leadership. This is why I believe Senator Gideon Moi is the best bet the Kalenjin community has in its quest to have one of its own occupy State House come 2022.

Senator Moi is strategic. No one knows the methodology he is going to employ. Sun Tzu in the Art of War said: “Appear weak when you are strong…” He further said, “Conform to the enemy's tactics until a favourable opportunity offers, then come forth and engage in a battle that shall prove decisive.” Mr Moi has been biding his time. He has been under the surface and off the political radar. I'm certain that when the opportune time comes, he will release such arsenal that it will confound his political opponents.

Another strong weapon Moi has in his quiver is his humility and appearing to be reluctant and a fence sitter. Those tactics were successfully employed by retired presidents Moi and Kibaki.

Finally, Senator Moi has not been tainted by scandals or corruption. In 48 Laws of Power, Robert Greene says “Do not leave your reputation to chance or gossip, it is your life's artwork, and you must craft it, hone it, and display it with the care of an artist.” I rest my case.
