There is no harm in swearing-in Raila, Murkomen says

Elgeyo Marakwet County Senator Kipchumba Murkomen caused a stir on social media when he said there is no problem with National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga swearing-in himself as president.

Murkomen, who is also the Senate majority leader tweeted on December 9 stating that if Raila’s move to swear himself in would end the ongoing dialogue debate, then he should be allowed to go ahead.

Raila informed supporters that he will assume office as The People’s President on December 12. He said his party will use the results from the August 8 presidential elections.

Initially, Raila was to be sworn in on November 28, on the same day that President Uhuru was inaugurated for his second and final term. He then postponed the ceremony until Tuesday, when the country will be celebrating Jamuhuri Day.

NASA has refused to acknowledge the October 26 presidential repeat polls citing electoral illegalities and irregularities.

There have been calls to Raila, from different people including diplomats and envoys to call off the swearing-in and engage the government in dialogue.

Attorney General Githu Muigai on December 6 notified NASA that swearing-in Raila will be unconstitutional and its charges will be treason, which is punishable by death. NASA, however, stands its ground and insists on carrying on the task.

Murkomen in his tweet said that swearing-in Raila as president would not make him a president, but it was welcome if it would silence the talks about having dialogue.

If Tinga is allowed to swear himself into some President of Some club, NGO or organization what’s the problem? And suppose he purports to be Kenyan President&he is not what harm will it cause?Let him be what he wants to be then we end Dialogue debate&he will be satisfied.Period— KIPCHUMBA MURKOMEN (@kipmurkomen) December 9, 2017

His tweet evoked mixed feelings as Kenyans from both sides aired their views regarding the matter.

Tinga should not be allowed 12th Dec swearing in ceremony. He has already declared publicly on record he will take the oath of office of the President of the Republic of Kenya. The state cannot be seen to entertain those who defy the constitution and laws of the republic.— Mzalendo African (@MzalendoAfrican) December 9, 2017

All leaders who talk with arrogance like you have always come to some day regret.— Bbaimwera (@bbaimwera) December 9, 2017

My take... no one should loss life because of this @RailaOdinga nonsense. Let Raila be sworn in.

Exactly.. Let him Swear himself as the President of the NRM club ... then let him go home peacfully and rename whichever residence the state house of RAO of NRM.. Please... So what is we accomodate his wish... Simple dilute its relevence by ignoring it— Rajesh Mahan (@MahanRajesh) December 9, 2017

#KEpatriots disagree. This is the thin end of a very dangerous wedge. The warlord already cultivates a myth he is untouchable. Let him swear in and he and his cult will be convinced The state is his to take. We again say no appeasement no succour to enemies of the state

In any case he will go back to his wife home and not to statehouse.... Lakini be keen he might be digging a tunnel to statehouse— Murage Janet (@MurageJanet1) December 9, 2017

It's alright, but we should never take for granted any move Tinga makes, the 1982 coup opened our eyes...— Frank musee (@FmMusee) December 9, 2017

True. Once he is sworn in he will be satisfied and all this nonsense will end after fooling his followers and mostly kalonzo????????????— Khimulu_Ndiritu (@khimulu1) December 10, 2017

We should let him set the agenda of our politics all the time. Govt has been too lenient on provocateurs and it's high time it's stopped— James mburu kimani (@mburukim2001) December 10, 2017

Even God says, come let us reason together. I believe Government &Opposition should stop taking the possibility of dialogue lightly. There are serious issues (not electoral) that need action.Least we sink as bunch of foolish Kenyans. We're selling Kenya cheap— Joyce Matogo (@JoyceMatogo) December 10, 2017
