Kenyans have their say on CJ Maraga's decision to vote

Chief Justice David Maraga was on 26 October accompanied by his wife to take part in the repeat presidential election.

Maraga cast his vote at Bosose polling centre in Nyamira County yesterday afternoon.

Maraga, who annulled the August 8 elections later refused to talk to media personnel saying,” "I have finished my mission and I can now leave. I am not ready to answer any question.”

This came just a day after Maraga postponed the ruling for the election date.

The hearing was supposed to be on October 25 but did not take places since only two judges were present and they could not form a quorum.

The case had been filed by three civil society activists at the Supreme Court who sought to have the fresh presidential election cancelled.

Maraga’s decision to vote left many Kenyans speculating and they took to social media, some to express their disappointment while others argued that the CJ’s decision was with the right intentions.

The fact that the CJ voted must not be construed as validation of the electoral process.— SpeakingTruthToPower (@to_speaking) October 26, 2017
