SportPesa mega jackpot winner speaks on claims of abandoning family

SportPesa mega jackpot winner Samuel Abisai has responded to claims that he has abandoned his family after he won KES 221 million.

Abisai, hit the headlines in May this year after winning the jackpot, becoming the first mega jackpot winner in Kenya’s history.

Reports had indicated that Abisai’s father was still selling ropes at a market in Kakamega even after his son won the jackpot.

“The proceeds from selling these ropes educated Samuel and his siblings. I have not seen my son for a while now but I am confident in him that he has good plans for me. He travelled to China with his friends for some business arrangements but called me two days ago to tell me he is back. We did not talk much but I hope to meet him and discuss the big plans he has for me and my family. There are things he promised the community back home and I hope he will address that too,” said Abisai’s father.

In a post on his Facebook page on Thursday 24th August 2017, Abisai trashed reports that he was living lavishly since he won the cash, leaving his family in abject poverty.

"At first it was poor tailor winning jackpot when am not even one. Then I was in France when I was in (a) neighbouring country for charity work. Then (buying a) KSh 33 million Benz yet I got a Premio. I travel the world for work. I had a life before the jackpot.

Thanks dad for telling them what they wanted to listen to. We as a family will invest when we got the right thing to invest to, not because we want to make crowds happy, "We don't buy mandazi on the road because they look yummy. We buy they them because we need them. We won't invest because of windfall money, we will invest with purpose. We will take our time as family.even if it is a year," said Abisai

According to him, reports that he has been travelling around the world are not true and says that he had a life even before winning the cash.

“I travel the world for work and had a life before jackpot,” Abisai said.

Abisai also said as a family, they will only invest in the right thing, not just anything because they have money.
