Raila Odinga Reveals How Detention Damaged His Life

Citizens sympathised with Opposition leader and now NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga as he narrated the bitter part of his story on how bad governance damaged his normal life during his detention making him not withstand direct light and standing for long.

During the presidential debate that was organised by Debates Media Ltd in Catholic University (CUEA), Mr Odinga requested the moderators, Linus Kaikai and his counterpart Joe Ageyo to run the second phase of the debate while he was seated away from direct light which affected his eyes.

Kenyans swallowed a bitter pill when he revealed all that was caused by inhuman treatment during his detention, turning his life upside down. All this harm was done to him for condemning bad governance in the country. "I beg to speak while seated. My eyes are affected by direct light due to the harassment I went through in my detention."

Mr Odinga honoured the detention of the first president of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and that of his own father who was first vice president, Oginga Odinga - but none of them went through severe conditions like him. "Kenyatta was detained for 11 years and my father Jaramogi Oginga was a detainee too but I went through much pain during Moi’s regime."

The former prime minister made it clear he was not persuaded to join politics but the pain that Kenyans went through made him persevere that much. "No one requested me to join politics, Kenyans are crying and that drives me to keep seeking their justice."

Mr. Odinga who is contesting for the presidency for the 4th time denied claims of being a perennial looser stating that he lost once squarely but the rest he has been rigged. "I lost once (1997) the rest result has been cooked even Samuel Kivuitu (former ECK Chairperson) said he didn’t know who won the 2007 general election."
