Urgent open letter to Kenya Urban Roads Authority

Dear sirs, it is with great concern that we bring to your notice the following:

Very wide and deep trenches have been cut on both sides of Mpaka Road in Westlands as well as the Tarifa Road/Masari Road junction by contractors. The trenches are cut up to the tarmac, leaving no space for motorists and pedestrians. One car has already fallen into the five-foot deep trench near Fedha Towers in Westlands.

One car has already fallen into the five-foot deep trench near Fedha Towers in Westlands.

Moreover, your office has not provided any fencing to warn motorists or any visible signs at night.

The only sign posted warns of a slippery road, not a deep trench. A new motorist could end up driving straight into the trench, risking life and limb.

We, the concerned citizens of Nairobi, are demanding the filling up of these trenches immediately before any more accidents are caused.

If you fail to do so, we shall consider this as intent to cause accidents and damage to road users, and we shall be forced to approach a competent court to compel you to compensate affected citizens.
