Kirinyaga governorship candidate Anne Waiguru calls for peace during electioneering period

Kirinyaga Jubilee governorship candidate Anne Waiguru has called on the residents of Kirinyaga and the country as a whole to maintain peace during and after the August 8 elections.

In separate addresses in Nyangati, Kiorugari and Kangu areas in Mwea Constituency on Tuesday, the former Devolution Cabinet Secretary called for political tolerance between supporters of different candidates saying politics should not be a basis for disunity.

She further urged residents to shun politicians who are out to spread hate and cause political disharmony.

Addressing a rally in Kwale, President Uhuru accused NASA of fuelling ethnic tension in the country by playing up the emotive issue of land.

DP Ruto, in his speech, said that calls by NASA for the implementation of the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) report will only reawaken memories of past atrocities and cause tribal clashes.

Ruto said the government had achieved their objective of uniting the country and resolve past land injustices by issuing title deeds and resetting the families that were displaced during the 2007 post-election violence. 

Ms Waiguru also called on her rivals to engage in agenda-driven political debates instead of anchoring their campaigns on insults and name-calling.
