15 FACTS ABOUT THE IAAF WORLD YOUTH ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

IAAF world youth athletics championships is a global athletics event comprising track and field events for competitors who are 17 or younger.

The event is organized by International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF)

It was first held in 1999

This is the first time it is being staged in Kenya at the Kasarani Home of Champions.

This is the second time the event is hosted in Africa after Morocco hosted it in 2005

It is to run from the 12^th –16^th July this year.

IAAF President Sebastian Coe speaking after a meeting in Rio de Janeiro on 20 August last year said that they felt it was not the best pathway for the young athletes at that stage of their career.

Kenya has topped the table standings twice previously 1999, 2009
