UHURU: God forgive me,I will approve their hanging

President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned that those who will be found guilty of capital offences and economic sabotage, including destruction of public property shall be handed 'hanging' death sentences.

The president, while speaking at the launch of the passenger train services on the Standard Gauge Railway in Mombasa said he would approve death sentences for persons with such offences.

President Uhuru said there were individuals seeking to negate the government's efforts to develop the country through sabotage as is the case of sections of the railway being vandalised ahead of its launch.

“May God forgive me, I will approve death sentences for convicts of crimes as destruction of the rail track, capital offense and economic sabotage,” he said.

He urged the political class to embrace constructive criticism saying the railways belongs to neither him nor his deputy William Ruto.

He said the costly project was out of money belonging to all Kenyans and it is criminal for one to vandalise public property.

The Director of Public Prosecution had announced that culprits of the recent vandalism on sections of the railway could risk getting a 10 year jail term or fines of up to a million shillings each.
