SIX EFFECTIVE WAYS TO STUDY THE BIBLE

Studying the bible is not like reading any other book. The bible is God’s word and instruction to us. As it has been said, it is a life’s manual. It’s, therefore, important that this word of God becomes practical in our lives. We are supposed to have the revelation of the word.

The reason most of us do not feel the impact of the word of God is because we have not taken time to meditate on it. Today am going to enlighten you on the six effective ways to meditate on a verse or have a bible study in general.

1. Picture it! After you have read the verse in question, visualize the scene in your mind. Have the picture of what is happening in the context.

2. Pronounce it! Say the verse aloud, each time emphasizing a different word. This has shown me the importance of reciting verses aloud. Remember Sunday school when we used to read aloud bible verses?

3. Paraphrase it! Rewrite the verse in your own words. It’s always advisable to study having a notebook to write down some points. Now, write the verse using a simple language that you understand without changing the meaning or watering it down.

4. Personalize it! Replace the pronouns or people in the verse with your own name. This is what I call owning the verse.

5. Pray it! Turn the verse into a prayer and say it back to God.

6. Probe it! To probe is to ask questions about something so as to know more. This is done asking the following questions. I call them SPACEPETS questions.

After you have read the verse or had the bible study ask yourself the following questions.

I there any......

S – Sin to confess?

P – Promise to claim?

A – Attitude to change?

C - Command to keep?

E – Example to follow?

P – Prayer to make?

E – Error to avoid?

T – Truth to believe?

S – Something to thank God for?

Finish with a word of prayer.
