Huge endorsements that puts Obado on the lead

The race to capture the ODM nominations for the Migori gubernatorial seat is becoming interesting.

There is a fierce battle between incumbent Okoth Obado and former Rongo lawmaker Ochillo Ayacko.

Opinion makers put the incumbent ahead of the former Sports and Energy Minister.

According to an opinion poll released last week, Zachary Obado leads with 60 and 30 per cent for Zachary Obado.Both Anne Anyanga and Paul Odola combined polled 3% with the rest undecided

Obando has received several key endorsements that will be a major boost and determining factor for the man nicknamed 'sirkal matiyo'

Mega endorsements are expected next Week with Kuria West MP Mathias Roba and his East counterpart Shadrack Manga are expected to defect to ODM and at the same time endorse the incumbent. Manga, however, has retired from politics but has a lot of influence on the Kuria community.

The teachers in Migori have unanimously endorsed the Governor who himself was a physics teacher at different schools in the county including top performing Rapogi Boys. Teachers from Awendo and Rongo were the latest to join the fray of endorsements with the nominations day getting nearer.

The incumbent has also support of 5 of the 8 sitting members of parliament.Current Awendo MP Jared Kopiyo who is facing a stiff challenge from Walter Owino with his Rongo counterpart Dalmas Otieno has openly supported and endorsed the governor.

Also supporting the governor is Kuria West MP Mathias Robi and his Suna West counterpart Joseph Obiero.

 Uriri MP John Kobado who hails from the same constituency as the governor is also among those supporting Obado's re election.

The governor has also the backing of 36 of the current elect MCAs with all the nominated MCAs backing him

Two weeks ago the Suba elders from Suna endorsed the governor as well as the Uriri elders

Nyatike and Kuria elders endorsement which was done last year was a major boost for the governor's camp.

City political analyst Adams Oloo also hinted at the possibilities of the incumbent carrying the day where he said despite the governor fighting court battles for two years he did professionally well compared to other governors from Luo Nyanza

Another huge endorsement was from the health sector where both Nurses and clinical officers forming the backbone of health declared to support the governor for a second term

In a meeting with clinical officer, the representatives reiterated their efforts to continue working with the governor

The other endorsement was from the Sony Sugar workers and the farmers across the county who believe that the incumbent has done a lot to be allowed to go for a second term

Okoth Obado defected to ODM where he was received by Party leader Raila Odinga and is defending the seat in on an ODM ticket

Ayacko had last week sued ODM to stop Obado from vying and it's interesting to see what the party suopremo will do.
