Wanyama optimistic for AFCON 2019

Harambee Stars and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Victor Wanyama has said Kenya has the capability to qualify for the AFCON tournament set to be held in Cameroon in 2019.

Kenya last participated in this continental showpiece in 2004, where they were eliminated in the group stages.

The skipper has, however, cautioned on hard work and resilience among his teammates. “Hopefully, we can continue like this in the important games such as the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers,” he said while addressing journalists after the match on Sunday.

After performing incredibly well in two international friendlies; drawing 1-1 with Uganda and managing a hard fought 2-1 over DR Congo on Sunday, 26th March 2017 at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Stars have now shown a new breath of Kenyan football in a long time.

Head coach Benjamin Okumbi has praised his boys for the unbeaten ten matches but he remains focused.

Kenya is in group F which comprises of Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, and Ghana.

Stars start their campaign against Sierra Leone in June 2017.
