Kenyans expect so much from the president.

The opinion article by Enoch Wambua in The Sunday Standard was not only an obnoxious piece of writing for any active political participant in this country, but also a serious insult to ODM supporters.

I am alive to the fact that Mr Wambua is an aspirant for the Kitui Senate seat on a Wiper ticket and for that matter, he would wish to try and impress his party boss by hook or crook.

But my caution is that this desperate attempt should never be aimed at antagonising the majority stakeholder in the NASA coalition.

Mr Wambua alluded that Jubilee would have a sure ride to State House should Raila Odinga be chosen as the NASA flag bearer.

That was an unfortunate statement from a member of a party that should ideally be very measured in comments now that the coalition management committee is burning the midnight oil to craft the modalities of settling on a top candidate.

I wish to remind Wambua of a quote by the late John Michuki: "If you rattle a snake, then expect to get bitten." Like Kalonzo, Raila has a very decorated political profile on this continent.

Raila is the only true reflection of social democracy, which NASA stands for in its seven key pillars. He not only enjoys support across the geographical cover of this country, but has also been the most visible and popular political figure charting the political agenda of this country.

When Wambua invokes experience and network as the reason why NASA should shun Raila for Kalonzo, then I wonder if the good journalist really lives in this country!

I wonder if the definition of network and experience has changed without my knowledge. Raila's networks in international circles are unmatched and Wambua knows that. His signature in the liberation of this country from the yoke of autocracy cannot be understated.

Raila has always been more popular than Kalonzo and Musalia in Mt Kenya region, where both have run against him and emerged, well, behind him.
