The forthcoming nominations are likely to reveal a diminishing support for the Deputy President's ally, Kipchumba Murkomen. Harsh criticism on unfulfilled promises, NYS loot, and insecurity in the valley has seen the rise of support for opponents in the Jubilee Party in the county.
Jubilee party has attracted more than 3 contestants, among them a real-estate businessman Barnabas Boit, NGO specialist Michael Kibiwott among others. Former IG, David Kimaiyo who is contesting on the KANU ticket is expected to square it out with the Jubilee's flag bearer.
During a peace meeting on Saturday at Chesongoch Catholic Church, Murkomen conceded defeat to combat insecurity in the area and asked the presiding Bishop Korir to pray for them.
"We want to say that as leaders, we have been defeated and we surrender all to the Bishop and the church to find a solution," said Murkomen.
"The insecurity issues in the County is a problem for all of us, Leaders should not own up or give up on their leadership role" Senatorial aspirant Barnabas Boit, popularly referred to as "BB".
In the Keiyo region, Mr. Boit is becoming a household name after his series of tours majorly concentrated in the Marakwet West, Keiyo South and Keiyo North constituencies aimed at consolidating support from the grassroots.
Kimaiyo is likely to trounce Senator Kipchumba in their home area of Marakwet East Constituency. However, Kimaiyo is also facing challenges convincing voters over the insecurity card given that he resigned from as Inspector General because of failure to combat insecurity in the area.
With over 40,000 new voters in the county, a paradigm shift is expected to be seen in the regional politics. Murkomen is also battling to clear his name over allegations of looting millions from the NYS scandal.
The NYS report expected to be released anytime soon is likely to reveal Senator Kipchumba's role in the procurement process of services to his Law Firm.
The gubernatorial race in the county has concentrated on the incumbent Hon. Alex Tolgos, Keiyo South MP Jackson Kiptanui, former Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) auditor Bernard Chepkulei, former Sasini Managing Director Moses Changwony among others.
Murkomen is seen to be fronting the Keiyo South MP, perhaps to balance the Keiyo and Marakwet votes. The incumbent, Hon.Tolgos, is however viewed as the peoples 'favourite' across both the Keiyo and Marakwet regions.
