My take: Senate’s reason not to impeach Nderitu Gachagwa was a wise decision

Nderitu Gachagwa is perhaps the happiest man within our borders. He has the senate to thank for as they decided not to impeach him. He joins governors Mwangi Wa Iria, Martin Wambora and Paul Chepkwonyi all who survived the impeachment.

Gachagwa’s vindication has caused an up roar among Nyeri Mp’s and MCA’s who in their opinion say that the senate gave a biased decision. They say that the charges levied against the good governor coupled with the evidence were more than enough to show him the door.

So the question begs to be asked, “Did the senate make a biased decision?” Before we answer that, it would be wise to acknowledge the fact that Gachagwa’s case was heard by the entire house as opposed to an 11 member committee as was the case with the other three.

I think you will agree with me that to bribe an entire house is somewhat very difficult if not Impossible. However, there are claims that the senators are making it harder to impeach a governor as a good number of them will be vying for  the seat come August next year.

Whatever the senate’s reason was to save Gachagwa I am convinced that it was a wise decision. Before you start cursing and accusing me of being his supporter let me substantiate my claims.

The elections are fast approaching and impeaching a governor now would mean that their respective counties would have to undergo not one but two elections in the span of 9 months! That would deplete the candidates as well as the electoral body resources.  Furthermore, the biggest loser would be the mwananchi as development would have to take a back seat.

I know what you are thinking, “So should we sit back and do nothing?” Far from it, all that I am saying is that we tolerate each other for the remaining months to elections. Instead of impeaching our governors let’s focus on service delivery to the mwananchis. After all, we have tolerated them for 4 years. Surely 9 more months wouldn’t hurt!
