Kalenjins love affair for the brown ‘Jaget’

Their Prowess in long distance running is undisputable. This was evident in the 2016 Rio Olympics. But there is another ‘marathon’ in town. The internet has been rocked with the latest tendencies of Kalenjin’s love towards the brown ‘jagets’ (Jackets). As one gets to Eldoret town, they are greeted with prospects of activities with agriculture and trading taking the center stage but that alone is not enough for you to conclude that you are indeed in Eldoret. You will know you are in Eldoret once you see men wearing brown jackets. Indeed you will know you have met a Kalenjin man if you spot one wearing this brown jacket.

Like an army worm invasion, or like a Kikuyu and his Probox, the Kaleo jacket is a must for any noble man or child from the land of Mursik. The last time I was in a shopping mall looking for a warm pullover to kill the August colds I must also admit I felt a victim! Getting to this jackets stall, it’s like I was instantly bewitched! The notion of buying a pullover was instantaneously taken away by the brown jacket's magnetism; I parted away with my 2k without a graph! Was it because my 'bakule' Kipkorir owned one and looked superb in it? Was it because Jebets find Kibets with brown jagets eye-catching?? No, I couldn't find the best counter to this. And who will want to be left behind?? Interestingly, high profile Kaleos including the DP Ruto has also been spotted wearing very similar jackets with the one favored by his kinsmen. Cherangany MP Wesly Korir was also spotted wearing one in a recent interview with a local Tv station not forgetting to mention our long distance hero Wilson Kipsang.

This has proved beyond doubts that these jagets were made for us Kalenjins and we abide by that. Anybody who will come between us and the Brown Jagets will be met with scolding resistance! But why the brown jackets attraction? Are there any other reasons more than it meets the eye? Well, from my in-depth analysis and what I found on the net, here are some of the amazing reasons: (number 7 will shock you)

1. It’s expensive and is seen as a class on its own (cost over 2k+) and Kalenjins love class. Remember the safari boots? Their color? Their price? Well you get what I am saying. You cannot dare forget the price of sports shoes also!

2. It’s favorable for cold or warm conditions. Nandi hills, Kericho, Iten, Nyaru, and Mount Elgon. You will not want to imagine how these areas are damn cold! But also in a roasting sunny day you will not fail to spot a Kalenjin man wearing this jacket! You think am lying? Well go to Kabarnet you will prove your doubts wrong

3. Cannot get dirty easily and easy to wash.

4. It can match with any type of clothing. Jeans, material… name it, will match with these jackets

5. It’s bullets proof (for security reasons). Mnafkiria pesa za mahindi, machani chai na ngano zitafukishwaje bank??

6 .The rains cannot penetrate it. Remember Rift valley? Cold and wet most of the year

7. It has many pockets hence can carry many items at once (including Eurobond)

8. It acts as a reflector when travelling at night hence reducing road accidents

9. It lasts longer and it can be passed to up to 2 generations (20 years)

10. The brown leather jacket is the color of 'goldi metol' (gold medal) hence it's a source of brides in the community.
