Men hurt too, stop violence against the male species

I guess all of you have watched that video clip of a woman roughening up a male conductor for charging extra 20 shillings fare. In the background you can hear the rest of the passengers cheer and laugh while others are busy recording the whole episode of the unfolding drama. In the end, the male conductor gives back the 20 shillings and the woman slaps him.

On that day, topics that arose from the saga were shocking to me. “Madness in our matatu sector” “overcharging conductors”  “impunity in our matatus”  “corrupt conductor learns a lesson” “the slap of impunity” and many more others. No one paid attention to the assaulted man. Everyone saw the woman’s actions as right.

Sometimes I wonder how people would react if the conductor was a woman and she overcharged the man who later roughened her up and demanded for a refund of 20 shillings. Don’t you think things would have been handled differently? First, everyone would have shared the video demanding for the arrest of the conductor. Actually everyone would be speaking in one voice “stop violence against women.” Later in the day you would see in the news “woman conductor harassed by a man because of 20 shillings only” “Are women safe in their jobs?” After that, inspector General would release a press statement and order for the arrest of the man. Immediately the man would be arrested and charged in court instantly.

No action was taken at all toward the woman even after provision in the constitution under article 27 which states that every person is equal before the law and has the right to equal protection and equal benefit of the law.  The woman walks scot free in the streets boasting of how he taught the man a lesson.

Why does it matter if it’s a man or a woman who got harassed and roughened up? Why does it not matter to you that the fact here is someone got harassed and roughened up? This is our society. It is normal when a woman assaults, harasses and roughens up a man. We have actually become onlookers of violence on men. This has to stop. Violence can never be justifiable. No one should harass another person. No woman is better than any man and neither a man better than any woman. We are all equal. Hitting a man or a woman isn’t peace and is wrong. Men hurt too. Stop Violence against men
