Crime rate to reduce with KCB job creation initiative

Africa has the highest concentration of young people in the world.

Nearly 300 million people in sub-Saharan Africa are aged between 10 and 24, and this number is not about to go down anytime soon as this age group is projected to nearly double to about 561 million.

With this in mind, the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) last week launched a Sh50 billion enterprise development programme geared towards supporting entreprenuers within the informal sector.

This is in a bid to ease the country’s unemployment crisis, reported to be the highest in East Africa.

The initiative is expected to benefit at least 500,000 entrepreneurs thereby creating 2.5 million jobs.

The project, which aims at engaging youthful entrepreneurs within the informal sector will ease the burden of unemployment in Kenya.

The initiative will make a big difference in a country where over one million young people enter the labour market annually without any skills.

This is due to the fact that some have either dropped out of school or completed school and not enrolled in any college.

No doubt the level of crime will also go down when a number of now idle youth get something to do with their time.
