Why leaders are luring voters to move to Nairobi to register as voters

IEBC must conduct civic education to ensure they hit the target of registering eight million new voters.

However, voter registration is only practically important to Kenyans if done in the right way by the officials performing the exercise and the eligible voters.

In recent days, leaders across the political divide have engaged in political contests as they hunt for more votes.

For instance, community leaders from Nyanza and central Kenya regions have urged residents to move to Nairobi to register as voters to ensure they clinch key political seats especially the governorship. The JAP supporters want to remove CORD from this critically influential seat while the opposition is striving to maintain the post.

However, the big question is will this really help the people at the grassroots?

Unfortunately, the individuals will be lured with handouts forgetting that this will impact negatively on development of their regions which may pick unpopular leaders.

The role of electing visionary leaders is yours and mine. Therefore, before you are lured to shift to a different region to register as a voter you should realise that by so doing you are compromising your democratic right.
