KDF troops in Somalia deserve bouquets

As I watched people sharing red roses and other gifts on Valentine’s Day, a thought crossed my mind and really wished that everyone shared the same thought with me.

I thought that if it was in my power, I would have given all KDF soldiers a bouquet of roses and more, especially those who are in Somalia for the love and patriotism they have shown to their country.

It is thanks to their love for Kenya that they risk their lives to protect this country by ensuring Somalia is freed from Al Shabaab terrorists, who are a threat to the entire region.

No greater love can ever be shown than that of a person who pays the ultimate price  just to protect someone they cherish. This is what our soldiers are doing.

As Kenyans, we have absolutely nothing to give our beloved soldiers, even to the fallen ones. All we have to give is unending gratitude and prayer, thanking God for this kind of patriots.

It is exactly a month after the bloody attack on a KDF camp in Somalia. The attack resulted in death of scores of our soldiers, hundreds were injured while others are yet to be accounted for. I realise it must be a very trying moment for the families who have not heard from their loved ones in Somalia and also for those who lost their kin.

For our peace, security and freedom, the soldiers left the comforts of their homes for the hardships in the barracks and later war zone in Somalia.

We should not forget to dedicate some love to our soldiers and their families.

Kudos KDF, you are doing a great job. We love you.
