The future of Kenyan youths is at stake

What lies ahead for the youth?

The Eurobond furore seems to be here to stay. However, the media seems to have put the issue on the back burner. As is the norm nowadays, the citizens are left to guess the next move without ultimate solutions.

Some individuals have tried to shed light on the whole episode but we are left to wait for another bombshell devoid of actions. We are surviving on the mercies of God thanks to what we are exposed to as a country. There is trouble everywhere including at the Judiciary.

It is only a few months ago that tear gas canisters were lobbed at school children protesting the grabbing of their school land. Perhaps Zimbabwean President Mugabe had a point.

All these scandals have become the summary of everyday Kenyan life and many more are still under investigations.

It is not surprising that young people marvel at these. The people whom the society considers as the future lack the vigour to change the face of our nation. A recent research shows that a majority of Kenyan youths is ready to engage in any heinous activity to acquire wealth. All these have been attributed to what our leadership models expose us to.

Is it that we are not reasoning properly or the scripts we are reading from are wrong? We have very many young elites at our disposal but most do not believe in their abilities.

This introduces the next aspect, which is, the youth being used to cause mayhem.

Days are gone when the young dexterous Nelson Mandela and Steve Biko sacrificed their lives to see South Africans live in a country free of discrimination.

Days are gone when young Martin Luther King Jr stood up against slavery in ancient America. Days are gone when we read in the history books of the endeavours of young Tom Mboya.

What we are now is a society made up of young people ready to accept corruption as a norm.

Youths are the authors of tomorrow. They have to decide whether to look up to gloomy or unyielding hopes. They have to be judged by their character.
