Youth should realise their potential as leaders of today

The youth have the capacity to change the way this nation’s politics is run.Nobody can undermine the power of youth. First, they are a majority in Kenya.

The majority of the current generation youths are learned and very enlightened. They also have the potential to be opinion leaders in society because fortunately, our parents do not believe in the power of knowledge.

We have had enough of the politicians telling us “youths are the leaders of tomorrow”. We have had enough of older people seeking to win our support and not keep their word. We honestly have had enough of some of the leaders claiming to be grooming the youths for tomorrow that never comes.

Youths must stop waiting for tomorrow. Tomorrow might never come. Those who have the potential to lead should not wait.

If all youths rallied behind a good character among themselves, they are sure to become a force to reckon with come next year.

Youths should not wait for someone to recognise them, but start believing in themselves to be trusted with leadership. If you climb a ladder of success, make sure it does not lean against the wall of failure.

Let youths shun bad blood in our Kenyan politics. Some politicians are always curtailing the efforts of young visionary Kenyans from making waves in the political arena.

If youths must excel in life, they have no option but to have their own in the political arena.

Most politicians will never empower youths when they know how influential they can get with the empowerment. They are, after all, out to get power. If youths must be empowered, they must have one of their own in top leadership posts.

Play ignorant

No one knows the plight of the Kenyan youths more than a youth. Youths have to realise that their problems can only be handled by their fellow youths. Some youths have outstanding leadership skills which can do our country good.

Most young people cite lack of money as a major hindrance to running for political posts. Employment opportunities in our country are very scarce; money has always been hard to come by, but, youths cannot play ignorant on the resource endowment of our country.

It is always appalling when a majority of youths in most parts of Kenya, who should be resourceful, has opted to always wake up to nothing to do, roam, drink themselves stupid and always cite unemployment as the cause.

Come on youths. Idling and becoming subjects of ridicule should not be your portion. The politics of empowering the country’s citizens should be their priority if they decide to engage in politics.

Youths can change the whole society by playing better politics and delivering better if elected. They must take advantage of the high population of youths to have bargaining power in politics.

They should stand with a fellow youth this coming election, campaign for him/her without tokens.

We have to change the way we think, the way we vote, the way we choose, the way we dream, the way we look at our leaders, the way we look at the future and most importantly the way we look at ourselves as Kenyans.

We have to realise we control us and our country.

Let us not decide for the sake of deciding when it comes to the politics of this country. Let’s not vote for the sake of voting.
