Stop this attack on teaching profession

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto should not turn a blind eye to the woes facing teachers.

Reports that one teacher committed suicide after missing his salary are quite disturbing.

The President should have acted like a father figure and asked the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to obey the court order requiring it to release the September salaries for tutors.

Employment of teachers on contract is another affront on the noble profession.

The Jubilee Government seems to have launched a bare-knuckled attack on teachers.

TSC is still maintaining its bad attitude towards teachers and their unions four weeks after a labour court in Nairobi ordered it to pay teachers their September salary after having ordered teachers too, to resume duty immediately.

Teachers heeded the court ruling and returned to work as ordered, expecting TSC to do the same but they were wrong.

It looks like TSC has a penchant for disobeying court orders. Does this mean there are two sets of law in Kenya? For the haves and have-nots?

The TSC leadership must do more to redeem its image.
