Chesta reigned supreme as Diploma Teachers Training Colleges (DTTCs) shine at Rift Valley ball games which came to a close in Mosoriot on Wednesday.

Hosts Mosoriot took the men’s handball crown in the regional tournament after teaching national champions Kericho a hard lesson.

Mosoriot won the contest 25-14. Coach Reuben Kisiroche said: “It will be our first time at the national games and that will be a good experience.”

The West Pokot-based ruled volleyball and hockey in a show of pure tactics, booking a place in the region’s team to Kenya Teachers Colleges Sports Association (KTCSA) national games in June.

Seven DTTCs comprising Chesta, Kericho, Mosoriot, Tambach, Moi Baringo, Bishop Mahon and West Pokot converged at Mosoriot and Koitaleel Samoei University grounds for the three days of action.

Chesta won against hosts Mosoriot in a hotly contested men’s volleyball final.

Chesta DTTC men beat the hosts 3-1, with the winner winning the first set in 25-16 before Mosoriot fought-back to defeat the guests in 25-22 . Chesta took the third and fourth sets, scoring 25-15 and 25-11 to secure victory.

The Rift Valley DTTCs volleyball had lost 2-1 to Kibabii University ahead of the regional competitions.

“We are picking critical lessons from the regional games as we plan to represent Rift Valley at the national games. We will improve on our blocking. We are also not going to underrate any team and we are set to bring the trophy to Rift Valley,” Chesta Chief Principal Duncan Okwaro, who is also the national KTCSA chairman said.

Mosoriot had beaten Kericho 3-1 in the men’s semi-final on Tuesday evening.

Chesta also took the women’s volleyball title after easily beating Kericho in the final staged at Koitaleel Samoei University grounds. They won the three sets in 25-19, 25-7, and 25-10.

Team captain Sharon Mutai said they played Kibabii University and won 3- 2 and also triumphed 3-0 in a match against Nasokol Girls as part of their preparations for the regional contest.

“We followed our coach’s instructions to the latter. The preparations were rigorous because we had planned to train harder and to win easily. Our aim is to win at the national games in Machakos,” Mutai said after the win.

Chesta also clinched the Rift Valley DTTCs women’s hockey title in a round-robin competition after stunning Kericho (2-1), Tambach (1-0) and Mosoriot 3-0).

“It will be our first time at the nationals and we are confident of winning the trophy,” Chesta hockey captain Viola Jepngetich told Standard Sport.
