Ruai officer who threatened to kill wife charged with assault, arson and resisting arrest

A police officer has been charged in a Nairobi court with threatening to kill his wife.

Daniel Mutisya is alleged to have attempted to kill his wife Josephine Mutindi Kithu on January 9, 2019, in the Mowlem area. He is said to have attempted to light a gas cooker to burn Kithu and the children who were at home at the time.

Josephine Mutindi Kithu, whose husband reportedly tried to set her on fire.

In the second count, the accused threatened to kill the complainant.

Mutisya, a general duty officer at Ruai police station, was also accused of attempted arson, assault and resisting arrest.

The officer and Kithu had an argument at home before he committed the offence. Their teenage daughter raised the alarm and attracted neighbours who turned the gas off. Court records indicate that during the scuffle, Mutisya threw a beer bottle at neighbours who had responded to the distress calls.

Officers arrested Mutisya and escorted him to Dandora police station. However, he requested the officers to release him on the condition that he will not disturb her again.

When he appeared in court, Mutisya denied the charges.

The prosecution objected to his release, saying he could interfere with the case seeing as he is an officer and that the case had been delayed since 2019.

He was, however, released on a Sh1 million bond. The matter will be mentioned in two weeks.
