Malava hospital set for upgrade

Kakamega, Kenya: Kakamega County government is set to construct an outpatient wing, women and children ward at Malava Sub-County Hospital at Sh10 million. The hospital will also get modern medical equipment.

Area MP Malulu Injendi said the hospital lacks basic facilities despite being upgraded to Level 5.

“The hospital lacks basic necessities including drugs as they are stolen,” MP said.

Deputy Governor Philip Kutima said Medical Advisory Board recommended the facility to be rehabilitated to modern standards.

"We plan to upgrade the hospital to address emergency cases," he said.

Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said in a month's time, equipment worth Sh100 million will be purchased to be used for cancer and diabetic patients, and for ICU services.

Meanwhile, Shirugu/Muigai Ward Rep Albert Wetundu has blamed the police for failing to provide security.

“We have police officers who rob people by pretending to be inspecting," he said.

Malava OCPD Justus Kitetu said all officers are supposed to be in uniform unless they are criminal investigative or intelligence officers.
