Another medic at Meru hospital shot dead by thugs

Meru,Kenya: Another medic at Meru Level Five Hospital has been found killed barely three weeks after another doctor from the same hospital was murdered.

Dr Ashford Mbogo, who worked as an optician at the hospital, was shot in the neck at close range just few meters from his gate yesterday morning while driving his kid to school. He was a resident of Kaithe village in Kinoru location in North Imenti.

The late Mbogo also owned a private eye clinic in Meru town.

Eye witnesses said he was shot by two hooded men who later escaped on a motorcycle that had been parked nearby.

The eye witness, who requested not to be named for safety reasons, said the incident happened when the doctor slowed down to negotiate a corner.

The bullet shattered the closed window of the left side door of the car.

Residents of the estate who flocked the scene said they heard a loud sound like that of a tyre burst.

Engine running

North Imenti OCPD Tom Mboya Odero said the engine of the car was still running when he arrived at the scene after he had been notified about the incident by area assistant chief Mwiti Kirigia.

The police boss said they were yet to establish the motive of the murder and added that they had launched investigations to track down the killers.

“At this stage we are not in a position to tell the motive of the murder, but we have started investigation which we hope will lead to the arrest of the suspects. We will do our best to make sure those behind this heinous crime have been apprehended to face the law,” Odero said.

The body was taken to St Theresa’s Kirua Catholic Mission Hospital in Buuri District.

Three weeks ago, a surgeon at the hospital, Dr Albert Obiri, who had been carjacked near his home was found murdered in the neighboring Buuri District.
