Strathmore's A La Mode culture fest wows fans

By Rose Kwamboka

The Strathmore Culture Fest cum Mr. and Miss. Strathmore was cancelled by the administration, 2 weeks to the event, citing that the event goes against the universities moral values, mission and vision.

This was supposedly after the administration pointed out indecency in form of clothes worn to the occasion and Un-Strathmore like conduct. Given the school’s professional dress code that the students are subjected to, one is left to wonder what they were to wear to the event. Skirt and trouser suits, perhaps!

However, the organizing committee was not about to fail their fans especially given that tickets - which were selling at Shs.250 at the time - had already been sold out.

Therefore, part of the committee involved in the failed endeavor, teaming up with Strut Africa, formed one of a kind fashion event dubbed A La Mode, which took place at ‘The Bomas of Kenya’ on Dec 1.

Dj Protégé and Dj Mr. Incredible, who kept the youthful and energetic crowd on their toes till 8am the next morning, kept the music flowing, like milk and honey in the promised land.

Models from Nairobi University main campus, USIU beauties - who had also graced the red carpet, run way for the Mr. and Miss. USIU - and the formerly selected contestants of the Mr. and Miss. Strathmore competition, graced the catwalk.

With a mix of the three universities it would no longer be suited to give personalized category crowns like Mr. and Miss such and such a university.

The categories, Mr. and Miss. Farewell and Mr. and Miss. Publicity no longer had a place and were scrapped off. Hence, clothing wear crown categories were preferred. The crowns to be competed for included cultural, casual, dinner and beach categories.

Mike Njeru, a member of the organizing committee and a BBIT graduating student at Strathmore, termed the event a mind blowing one, given the epic attendance.

We cannot wait for the second annual A La Mode of its kind, more so to see the drama that unfolds prior to the event.
