Police officer arrested for allegedly setting neighbour's vehicle ablaze

A police officer has been arrested for allegedly setting a colleague’s vehicle on fire in the wee hours of Tuesday, August 1.

The incident, which took place in Kabras, Kakamega County ensued after a misunderstanding between the two officers, police constable Evans Kamau and a neighbor. 

“At around 0230 hrs, the said police constable, Evans Kamau, deliberately set ablaze the complainant's motor vehicle- a Toyota Alion- by using a mattress and a matchstick,” read a report registered under OB02/01/08/23.

Security officers in the neighbourhood managed to put out the fire but unfortunately, the bonnet and front part of the vehicle was extensively consumed by the fire.

Investigating officers found the accused with two matchboxes and kept them as exhibits.

At the time of his arrest, the police said Kamau appeared drunk.

He will face arson charges.
