Football Kenya Federation women Premier League Zone A leaders Thika Queens cemented their stay at the summit following a walkover at the weekend.

Thika Queens, who are also the defending champions, received free points after their opponents Soccer Queens failed to turn up at the Thika Sub-County Stadium.

Thika Queens now have 26 points from 10 matches. The champions, who are unbeaten this season, have the same points as last year's runner-up, Spedag, which have a match in hand.

The Mombasa-based side, Spedag defeated Soccer Sisters 5-3 in an entertaining fixture at Camp Toyoyo Grounds on Sunday.

Sharon Bushenei grabbed a brace for Spedag, before Elizabeth Ambogo, Doris Anyango and Esse Akida scored one each for the winner. Margaret Mwangi grabbed a brace for Sisters, while Christine Njogu added the third.

Commenting after the match, Spedag coach Christine Nanjala said the three points they dropped in their league opener against defending champions might deny them a place at the top of the table.

"We started the match slowly in the first half and allowed our opponents chance to come from behind and tie the game 2-2 at half time. But we came back stronger in the second half to make sure we took control of the match and eventually won the match.

"We will push to the last match and hope for a win," she said.

Spedag have one match before the season ends. They will host Mombasa Olympic this weekend, while Thika Queens have two matches to go. Queens will play Makolanders and Gaspo.

As it is, the champions are favorites to claim the top spot and qualify for the playoffs, which will determine the 2016 champion.

It is not clear, who tops zone B, after Oserian Ladies' resounding 8-0 win against Eldoret falcons was suspended, citing match fixing claims.
