Who's next? Murang'a woman shunned after death of five husbands

World over, men always pant after — or even kill one another over — devastatingly beautiful women. That, however, is not the case for one such woman from Othaya’s Kiriaini area, Murang’a County.

The woman — whose real identity we chose not to publish, lest we further scandalise her — is talk of the town after her fifth husband, like his predecessors, recently died rather mysteriously.

A local told this writer that despite the fact she looks harmless, the 47-year-old grocer could be the most dangerous woman in the county. So much so that she is currently a marked woman who is only discussed in hushed tones.

Despite her ‘to-die-for beauty’ as far as village standards are concerned, men have shunned her, fearing falling victims like all her previous four husbands. Some women, too, now treat her with suspicion.

“It’s not clearly known how many other men she has only been involved with romantically and died. But so far, those she got married to or cohabited with as husband and wife at different times are five and all died mysteriously or tragically. Currently, no man can dare seduce her, despite her beauty,” said James Mwangi, a local who is familiar with the strange tale.

Jinxed wife

Reportedly, her first husband, a peasant, met his Maker in the early 90s after allegedly being gored by a raging bull. Like any other widow, the woman grieved bitterly, with friends and relatives comforting her.

With her child from that marriage, she remarried a local shopkeeper who was later abducted, only for his corpse to be dumped by the road side in the locale. Sadly, this was even before they sired a child with him.

Interestingly, she never gave up. She reportedly still got married to yet another third man much later. Unfortunately, that husband, with whom she had two children, is alleged to have — surprise, surprise — died of a heart attack while digging in his shamba.

Her subsequent man, whom she never married per se, but only cohabited with as husband and wife, resulting into two more children, is the latest to go. It is alleged that he passed on following short illness. The widow is now living with her five children from the unions.

“There are also rumours that a man she casually dated, but neither officially married nor sired any child with before the latest case, died after he was involved in a grisly road accident with a matatu while cycling downhill,” said Mwangi. Word doing rounds is that the woman could be responsible for the deaths of her husbands. She, however, has never been neither arrested nor charged by the authorities over any of her dead husbands.

“It’s not clear whether she kills her men to inherit the little property they own or she is just jinxed or hers is a case of sheer sad coincidences,” said Mwangi, adding that it’s only police who can launch an investigation on the matter to unravel the mystery.
