Two men in court for stoning Kabogo’s opponents over the eggs saga

Two men found themselves in court after allegedly stoning vehicles carrying a social media activist accused of defaming Kiambu governor William Kabogo.

Waime Mburu had been charged at a Mombasa court and imprisoned at Shimo La Tewa Prison on January 8, 2016 for using his social media page to falsely accuse Kabogo of purchasing 1,000 acres in Kwale County.

Waime had claimed in his blog that Kabogo planned to import low quality eggs into the country. Waime was released in January, and the convoy escorting him to his Ndumberi home in Kiambu caused a stir when some people started pelting the cars with stones.

Waime had been accompanied by Kiambu politicians including Kiambu town MP Jude Njomo and Kimani Inchungwa.

Njomo is a key witness in the case facing  Kangethe Mungai and Josiah Gatheca Gatwiri who were accused of throwing stones and damaging one of the vehicles in the convoy on January 27, 2016.

Njomo told the court that the accused persons were henchmen of Governor Kabogo.

“I saw the accused persons throw stones and they were aiming at me and I was forced to get inside the car to protect myself because I was on the sunroof.

We hurriedly left the scene and later reported the matter to Kiambu police station.

“Waime was a social media activist and after he alleged that the Governor was importing eggs from foreign countries thus affecting the local market that caused him to be arrested and taken to court”, Jomo told the court.
