Three suspected thugs were at the weekend killed in separate incidents in the city.

Two were killed on Juja Road and another one in Langata, police said.

Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome said one of the suspects was lynched on Juja Road in a botched robbery on Sunday evening.

The police boss said officers on patrol shot dead another suspect as he and his accomplices tried to rob a petrol station.

The group had approached the petrol station attendants and ordered them to surrender the night’s collection.

“In the confrontation, police on patrol noticed the activities and rushed there, only to be confronted by gunmen. They managed to kill one while the other accomplices escaped on foot,” said Mr Koome.

They recovered stolen property from the slain men.

Police warn crime may increase ahead of the Christmas festivities and that they are putting in place measures to mitigate the situation.

Since schools were closed, gangs have been moving around estates and on streets robbing residents.

More officers are being deployed on the streets to help check crime.

Police are also relying on CCTV cameras on major streets to tame crime.

Elsewhere, a trader is admitted in hospital after being shot and wounded by suspected thugs in Gigiri, Nairobi.

The victim was driving into his compound Sunday night when a gang that had been waiting struck and tried to rob him and his family.

Police say he resisted, prompting the gang to shoot and injure his arm.

The gang escaped without stealing anything from him.

Police said they are looking for the gang, which escaped on foot.
