The national men’s volleyball team Wafalme Stars landed in the ‘Group of Death’ after being pooled alongside Cameroon, Libya, and Ghana ahead of the 2023 African Nations Championships that serve off on Sunday in Cairo, Egypt.

Led by coach Gideon Tarus, the team left the country on Friday full of confidence.

During the 2021 tournament in Rwanda, Kenya produced a sterling performance, which saw them upset powerhouse Egypt in a memorable victory and the team is looking forward to an excellent show in Cairo.

Defending champions Tunisia headline Group B which consists of Tanzania, Mali and Chad while Rwanda, Morocco, Gambia and Senegal are in Group B.

Hosts Egypt, Algeria and Burundi will be the only teams in Group A after Congo pulled out of the event.

The Pharaohs will kick off the championships with a match against Burundi as other teams follow suit on Monday.

Kenya is ranked 69th in the global FIVB ranking and fifth in Africa and the main focus for the team is to solidify their position as among the continent’s top volleyball teams.
