Two secondary school girls have been named in the final teams for the Commonwealth Games and the Africa 3x3 national teams.

Youthful and towering Medina Okot who sat for her form four examination two months ago at former national and East Africa girls basketball champions Kaya Tiwi in Kwale County has been selected in both Commonwealth Games and the continental events.

Another student at the same school Babra Achieng has been named in the team for the Africa 3x3 finals to be played in Cairo, Egypt in October.

Kaya Tiwi has been in the forefront in producing quality students to study and play basketball in the US.

The Commonwealth Games players started camp on Tuesday at the Kasarani Indoor arena ahead of their maiden appearance at the games to be held in Birmingham, United Kingdom from July 28 to August 8.

Kenya Basketball Federation Vice President Hilmi Ali said Okot and Diana who have secured basketball scholarships at the Danville Christian Academy in Kentucky, US have been selected alongside experienced Kenya women’s basketball captain Melissa Akinyi of Equity Bank and Debora Atieno of Kibra YMCA Education Center.

Others in the team are Lavenda Opondo (Zetech University), Joy Nekesa (Strathmore) and Stellah Nekesa of Kiberenge.

The men team compromises of Equity Bank’s trio of Davis Siaja, Faheem Juma and Fredrick Onono.

Others are Darril Omondi and Timothy Oyoo both from Strathmore University, Larry Shavanga of USIU and Gabriel Onyango from Catholic University of East Africa.
