National men’s volleyball league champions General Service Unit (GSU) maintained their unbeaten record after easily dismissing Prisons Mombasa in one of the weekend’s matches at Nyayo Stadium.

Guided by coach Gideon Tarus, GSU silenced the Mombasa side 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-14). 

GSU’s Naftali Chumba, Victor Ouma and Nicholas Lagat were outstanding as they hammered their opponents with hard hitting serves. The Mombasa team coached by Henry Nyambu had captain Jimmy Ngala, Nicholas Maina and Philip Chemwor as their outstanding outfit.

In other matches, GSU were pushed to the limit before edging out military side Kenya Defence Force (KDF) 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-14, 25-20).

Kenya Army narrowly edged out Administration Police (AP) 3-2 ( 17-25, 25-23 21-25, 25-21 15-11). Captain Elisha Kemboi and Douglas Maboga played their hearts out for Kenya Army. AP Kenya side was led by captain Julius Njuguna and Kelvin Koech.

Kenya Ports Authority(KPA) kept their good run unshaken after they came from one set down to beat Prisons Nyanza  3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-11) to keep their eyes set for the national playoffs. The dockers, GSU and Prisons Kenya used the weekend matches to prepare for next month’s Africa men’s volleyball club championship in Morocco.

In another all-Prisons affair, Prisons Nairobi defeated Prisons Western 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 26-24). Trail Blazers pulled a major surprise to beat Equity Bank 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 15-25, 26-26, 16-14).

League regulars Kenya Defence Force silenced Kenya Forest Services 3-1 (25-13, 13-25, 25-17, 25-22) while Prisons Rift Valley clobbered Vihiga County 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-18).

Prisons Rift Valley beat Prisons Nyanza 3-1 (25-14, 28-30, 25-17, 25-15).
