Coach says Kenyans got valuable lessons in Italy

National women beach volleyball head coach Salome Wanjala has said Kenya’s participation in the 2022 World Championships in Rome, Italy was of great significance.

“Kenya’s participation in the world championships is a big plus to the team.

“The girls have gained experience and confidence as they played world class players,” Wanjala said.

Speaking at the Big Tree Beach Hotel where the other members of the national team are training, the former international player said Gaudencia Makokha and Brackcides Agala have gained good exposure ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK. 

She said the duo played world class players from Italy, Germany and Poland in Pool L at the global event.

Makokha and Agala will join Phosca Kasisi and Naomi Too upon their return from Italy in Mombasa to prepare for the Club games set for July 28 to August 8.

Kenya lost all their global matches against Italy, Germany and Poland.

They lost to Poland’s pair of Kinga Wajtasik and Kociolek Katarzyna 2-0 (21-8, 21-17) on Monday.

The Kenyan duo had earlier lost to Italy’s Claudio Scampoli and Margherita Blanchin 2-0 (21-8, 21-9) before they lost to the German pair of Harla Berger and Julia Sude 2-0 ( 21-11, 21-13).

Wanjala said Kasisi and Too have adjusted to Mombasa weather and were responding well to training.

Meanwhile, Kenya Volleyball Federation has postponed the fifth leg of the women league which was set to serve off tomorrow.
