#JusticeForMohawk: Kenyans react to the killing of iconic lion by KWS

Kenyans have been up in arms, on social media, after a lion was killed yesterday in Isinya, Kajiado county.

The lion known as Mohawk was gunned down by KWS rangers after it attacked a boda boda rider in the county. Many Kenyans however are angered by the use of bullets instead of tranquilizers to put down the feline.

KWS Spokesman Paul Gathitu said the rangers were forced to shoot the animal after the situation became “life threatening.” He said they had sent out two teams to recover the animal but ended up taking the extreme measure on account of the animal’s aggressive behaviour.

Through the hashtag #JusticeForMario Kenyan, animal rights activists and international media have expressed their outrage and demanded that those responsible be brought to book.
