A fresh bid to impeach Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto will be launched Monday.
Kembu MCA Julius Korir, who is said to have the backing of more than 15 MCAs, will table a notice of impeachment in the Bomet County Assembly Monday afternoon.
The Ward Representative has cited gross misconduct, gross violation of the Constitution and abuse of office as some of the grounds for the planned ouster.
Mr Korir said it was time the assembly redeemed the face of the county, which he claimed had been ridiculed due to misappropriation of funds, irregular appointments and award of tenders to close relatives.
“It is time we bring to an end the leadership of the governor so that we save the face of the county and ensure equality in service delivery and at the same time protect public resources,” he told journalists.
Korir was accompanied by MCAs Evelyn Lang’at (Chesoen), Bernard Ngeno (Kapletundo) and Leonard Kirui (Siongiroi) who vowed to marshal support from other members and ensure the motion sails through.
Korir said the county government’s ranking by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) as the third most corrupt in the country prompted his move.

“The listing of Bomet as the third most corrupt is not amusing in any way and (impeaching Ruto is) the only way to end the shame and redeem the image of the county and win back the confidence of investors,” he added.
Ruto has, however, fought off the ranking of Bomet as number three in the corruption index, saying it is the national functions that were cited in the EACC report.
“None of the functions that we manage as a county are in the report and the question of ranking of Bomet should be directed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy,” Ruto said while opening Chesoen cooling plant in Bomet Central.
“We do not manage the police, nor do we issue identification cards or even birth certificates and it is this national functions that have made Bomet number three because of the bribes national government officers in this dockets collect from locals,” Ruto added.
He asked locals to ignore the report by EACC, saying it was ill-intended.
However, Korir said Ruto has a responsibility to tell the electorate why the county resources are the subject of scrutiny every year by other arms of Government due to alleged misuse.
“We are cognisant of the fact that he may try to run away from the facts but he should be ready to explain why ECDE centres are yet to be constructed three years after the assembly allocated enough funds,” Korir said.
